Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Straight answers on how coaching works, what it costs, and what it isn't.

Is this therapy?

No. Dr. Kassel does not hold an active clinical license and does not provide therapy, psychological treatment, diagnosis, or any legally privileged or HIPAA-protected service. This is coaching — structured, goal-oriented support drawing on his clinical and forensic background, but it is not a substitute for therapy or medical/psychiatric care.

What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy is a licensed clinical service focused on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, and it carries legal protections like therapist-patient privilege. Coaching is forward-focused and goal-oriented — working on patterns, decisions, and strategy rather than diagnosis or treatment. If you're dealing with a mental health condition that needs clinical treatment, a licensed therapist or psychiatrist is the right resource, and coaching can complement that work but doesn't replace it.

What are your credentials?

Dr. Kassel holds a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from the Adler School of Professional Psychology, with 16 years directing forensic and community mental-health programs and 17 years in graduate psychology education. Full details are on the home page and in the Method section. He does not currently hold an active clinical license, which is why this practice operates as coaching rather than therapy.

What is Adlerian Lifestyle Analysis?

It's Dr. Kassel's signature coaching framework, based on Alfred Adler's Individual Psychology — understanding the patterns, history, and "private logic" that drive how someone approaches relationships and conflict. See the full Method page for how it works in practice.

How do sessions work?

All coaching is delivered by telehealth (video call), available nationwide. Sessions are scheduled directly through the booking link on this site.

What does it cost?

The initial consultation is $75, standard monthly packages run $800–$1,400/month, an intensive tier runs $1,800–$2,500/month, and single sessions are $250–$350. Full details are on the Rates section of the home page.

Is there a fee for the initial consultation?

Yes — the 25-minute initial consultation is $75. If you move forward into coaching afterward, that $75 is credited toward your first package or single session. If a scheduled consultation is missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, the fee is non-refundable; you're welcome to reschedule once with adequate notice.

Do you accept insurance?

No. Coaching is not a licensed clinical service, so it isn't billable to health insurance. Payment is handled directly.

Is this confidential?

Sessions are private, but coaching does not carry the same legal confidentiality protections as licensed therapy (such as therapist-patient privilege). If legal confidentiality matters for your situation, that's worth factoring into your decision.

Do you work with minors?

This practice coaches adults. It does not provide services directly to minors.

Where are you located — do you work with people outside my state?

Coaching is delivered by telehealth nationwide, so location isn't a barrier within the United States.

How do I get started?

Book a consultation using the link at the top of this page. From there, you'll set up an initial session to talk through what you're working on and whether it's a good fit.

What if I'm in crisis right now?

This practice does not provide crisis support. If you're experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or local emergency services right away.
